THE MPTF HISTORY

MPTF PROJECT  SUPPORT SINCE 2000

 

 

 1.        Hope International: Rural Health & Hygiene Project in Kanya Kumari South India (2001-2002); the first MPTF supported Project pertaining to health promotion, disease prevention, and awareness-raising regarding food, nutrition & hygiene education.

2.       
DRISHTI: Rehabilitation of Physically Disabled Poor/Rural Children at the Rehabilitation Center in Lucknow, North India ((2002-2003). This Project was supported with  the focus on rehabilitating 50  girls from villages surrounding Lucknow.

3.        PHARDS: Non-Formal Education (NFE) Project for Poor/Rural Children in Pukharia, West Bengal (2002-2008).   Currently 13 NFE Centers are operating in 16 villages in Shyampur Block of The Rural Howrah District. The NFE curriculum  prepares  children 5-12 years in age, for formal education at the  secondary level schools. More than 650 children are enrolled and  more than 50% of the children are girls.The NGO has also formed six SHGs involving the women of some villages.
  
 
4.       
MERDS: Self-Help-Groups (SHG) for Poor/Rural Children to Promote Education/Personality Development, TN, South- India (2003-2004-2005).  Five  SHG(s) cum Coaching Centers were formed. With 200 children enrolled the focus was  on promoting education & school attendance, personality & social skills, health & hygiene, as well as .concept of money & savings. With positive impact, the NGO was able to expand further  through other resources, including Govenment of Tamil Nadu.

 
5.         HDC: Psycho- Social- Rehabilitation (PSR/CBR) Project for Mentally Ill in  Rural West. Bengal (2004-2005). This project was initiated  to focus on needs assessment, case finding, information dissemination, networking, and referral services regarding the issues related to Psychiatric  Disabilities  and Psychosocial Rehabilitation of  Mentally Ill. 
 SHG  leaders were trained to become extension workers.

6.        ADHAR: Income Generation Project for Urban Slum  Young Women in Kolkata, West Bengal (2004-2005). The project required  great deal of time/energy —but resulted in an aborted efforts. The grant money was stolen   by   the Coordinator was the Project—who left the Project. The NGO executive committee did not know about the situation—the money never went to the Project.


 7.    SPARC: Jyoti Kiran Rehabilitation Center for Physically Handicapped Young  Urban Slum dwellers in Lucknow, North India (2004-2005). A one-time Bridge Grant was issued to help the RC to continue rehabilitation program for the children; till the funding from Government and other resources in India became available.


 8.         Rotary International .Ditrictst. 3092:  Rehabilitation of TSUNAMI affected population in the Indian Islands of Andaman/Nicobar:  A joint Collaboration with the Rotary Club of Port Blair (2004-2005), this grant  was issued for the shelter related rehabilitation of the tribal/indigenous population—and it was part   of the larger funds collected by the Rotary District of West Bengal.

 9.        TRINITA: Socio-Educational Empowerment of Urban Slum Girls (9-19), Human Rights based Approach to Health/Personality Development in Kolkata, West Bengal (2005-2008). Currently this  Project currently  8 Girls Club Centers (GCC) involving  250 girls from various  slums of Kolkata. The aim of the Project is to  enhance  education, health, and life skills including vocational skills involving three   curriculum. To prevent dropout from school,  raise the marriage age to 18 years, and to understand their their Human Rights are the main objectives. Originally a Pilot Project-- it is   now designed to continue  till 2010. This project operates on the principles of  the community involvement. The girls and the mothers are trained  in leadership skills. At least three girls  from each GCC are trained to become PEER TRAINERS.

10. IRDC:  An Integrated  Rural Disability  Project in Rural Bangladesh  received The MPTF funding in
(2006). A one time grant was issued to facilitated this NGO's work in the area  of  physical disabilities among poor population groups.

11) SUK: Integrated Rural Health Project in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal  was initiated in January  (2007-2008); to cover 23 villages within focusing on clinical services including medication for health issues, preventive  and outreach work in the villages teaching simple illneass prevention skills, training of the tradional birth attendants and vaccination program for mothers and children. Through the work of the Community Health  Workers,  formation of the Self-Help-Groups (SHG) , and training of the women leaders of the  SHGs, information dissemination has taken roots. The focus on  community participation and  formation of the Stakeholders' group has shown some positive results to date. The project is in its second year.  































 




MPTF  Training Modules For NGO/CBOs

 
 
1. Human Rights Education & Learning (HRE/L) Module: The Background Paper and this   Module focus    on conceptual understanding based on International Instruments & National Background. The  emphasis is  on the  role of   HRE/L in the Development Process of the  people, marginalized by poverty & capacity deprivation health & disability, and gender biases in the Indian Sub-Continent. The 2-3 Day Module is largely interactive; calls for problem solving groups/exercises (learning by doing) and can be adapted for  different stakeholders including beneficiaries them-selves. 
 

2 Psycho-Social-Rehabilitation of   Mentally Ill (PSR) Module: The Background Paper and this Training Module  focus on conceptual understanding based on International Framework of PSR, however closely adapted to local values/mores. The culturally salient strategies for the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) of the Mentally Ill (Psychiatric Disabilities) population-- in the developing counties; Indian subcontinent in specific--is the focus. The 2-3 Day Training Module is interactive, and problem solving in its approach with participatory process. This Module can be adapted to include academic and NGO/Government stakeholders.


With Additional dimension, this Module  is designed  to focus on (needs of and for) the   Psychsocial Rehabilitation of Disaster Victims

3. Program Planning/Proposal Writing (PP/PW): The Background Paper and this Training Module focus on the essential elements involved in Program Planning by an NGO/CBO(s), as well as, Proposal  Writing  in order to access funds from the MPTF and other  entities and grantors.  The 1-2 Day Module focus on hands on participatory group work- and learning by doing.

4) Millennium Development Goals/Poverty (MDG/P):  This Training Module is in the process of being formalized   in 2008.  Its focus would be on Millennium Declaration (2000), information dissemination, underatnding of the Goals; their interplay in the development process. The Mellennium Village Concept would be incorporated-- with the idea of dealing with POVERTY issues in a cohesive, an integrated manner--promoting seamlessness.


5) Gender, Marginalization and Human Rights (GM/HR): THis Training Module is in the Process of being Formalized in 2008-2009. Its focus would be on  Beijing Plateform for Action, Convention on the Rights of Women and other International Instruments. The practical issues related to multiple gender biases which are cuases and results of  societal values, particularly in Indian Sub-Continent will be discussed in this participatory and hands on training Module.
 
Consultation services:


The MPTF provides Consultation on issues related to NGO Development, inclusive of Policies/Procedures , Program Design and Sustainablity.  We look at this as a partnership building tool and primarily engage with potential partners.
