MPTF BOARD MEMBER PROFILE Sajni M. Thadhani, Ph. D. Founder/President/Director: Dr.Thadhani, as the Cofounder The MPTF, has extensive background, and professional experience in the fields of Health, Mental Health & Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Along with that she has received her PH.D: Human Rights & Development from the International University for the Graduate Studies, NY. Her recent publication "The March Ahead" (2002) is based on her study thesis, and focuses on The MPTF development agenda in the Indian Subcontinent. She has participated in, and presented several papers, seminars, and workshops at the International Congresses of the World Association for Psycho-Social Rehabilitation (WAPR), and at the AAPR branch of the WAPR in USA. In 1990 she was awarded a grant by the World Rehabilitation Fund (WRF) to conduct a Study in PSR/CBR in India. Additionally, she has provided training and consultations in India since 1991. She has been working in close relationship with the UN since 1995, when she attended the 4th Women's World Conference in China. Dr. Thadhani has been instrumental in securing the Consultative Status with the ECOSOC for The Mulchand & Parpati Thadhani Foundation. She has been a Board member of the AAPR. She has been a member of the UN/NGO Committees on the Status of Women, UNIFEM & Mental Health & Human Rights. She has actively participated in the proceedings of the CEDAW, CSD, Disability Convention, Bret ton wood Institutions and WHO related meetings. She has collaborated with academic institutes in USA and India in terms of presentation of The MPTF Training Modules. As the chief UN representative, she has submitted statements to ECOSOC related meetings-- in keeping with the socio-economic development agendas.
Ramesh Prabhu Thadhani, MBA. Vice President/Treasurer: Mr. Ramesh. Prabhu Thadhani, the Cofounder of The MPTF, has extensive background in Business Management and Finance, with degrees: B.SC, M.SC, & MBA (Rochester University, New York) in Engineering, Management and Business Administration. His career track has been in the Pharmaceutical Companies, at the National & International levels, leading to top management positions, such as Vice President and Director. As the Treasurer and Vice President of The MPTF, and specialist in Finances, and with the commitment to ensure smooth functioning of The MPTF, his contribution to the Family Foundation is very significant and essential in order to fulfill its Mission in the Indian Subcontinent. As a retired professional and an independent business owner, his commitment to the family foundation is essential in more than one way. Jack B. Victor, Ph. D. Executive Secretary:Dr. Jack .B. Victor as the President Emeritus of the World rehabilitation Fund (WRF-President till 2000)has extensive background in serving the needs of the disabled people in the developing countries including India. He received his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Yeshiva University. As a senior consultant for WRF, he is presently responsible for directing the WRF programs in Cambodia. He has been a recipient of the Spirit of Hope Award from WRF & Gralnick Award from WAPR for his commending work in the area of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation. Dr. Victor is the senior author of Guidelines for the Socio-Economic Reintegration of Landmine Survivors. His multiple consultancy roles, board memberships, including the Board of Directors of Partners of the Americas, along with other related activities, has prepared him to richly contribute to the activities of The MPTF, particularly in its development projects incorporating review of project proposals, project design, and funding issues.
Sharon J. Vincent, MPA. International Liaison-Social Work: Ms. Vincent, an experienced social worker and current practitioner of the " Elder Care Management Services, has extensive background in clinical and administrative medical social work services for chronically ill and aging population. Her academic credentials include BA, MSW and MPA. In 2002 she was honored as the " Social Worker of the Year" by the National Association of Social Worker--in the Genesee Valley Division (2002). She has made several international visits inclusive of academic studies and social work projects--in England, Canada, China, Ireland, Jamaica, Russia and India. With Bridges to Education Program--Ms Vincent has taught English in Slovakia. Currently she holds a faculty appointment as field instructor for MSW students of the Greater Rochester Collaborative MSW Program, operated by the Nazareth College and SUNY in Rochester NY. As a past (2000-2004) executive board member of The MPTF- Ms Vincent returns to the board with rich experience --which has included a visit to India accompanying Dr. Thadhani. She provided special service to young women in the city of Kolkata--teaching them quilting techniques, along with training and project evaluation activities. Ms Vincent's background has richly prepared her to once again contribute to the work of The MPTF in USA and India, particularly in the areas of " Thadhani Fellow Program", networking with Schools of Social Work, training and project evaluation activities. Additionally Ms. Vincent is an alternate representative to the ECOSOC/UN activities. Humbler L. Martinez, MD. International Liaison-PSR: Dr. H. Martinez as the Executive Director of the South Bronx Mental Health Council Inc, and the recent past President of the American Association Of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation (AAPR), has extensive background and experience in Psychiatric Rehabilitation. He has been a member of the UN/NGO committee on Mental Health, and a member of the UN DPI/NGO Executive Board. Presently he serves as the Chair, Committee on Human Rights and Vice President of the Americas of the WAPR. He was granted the Alice Fordyce Public Service & Human Rights award by the AAPR in 2002. Additionally, he is a member of the Professional Advisory Board of Mental Disability Rights International (MDRI). His multiple activities including the academic rank of Clinical Professor with NY Medical College, Treasurer of the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry , as well as, his participation in conferences, memberships in various NGOs, and human rights advocacy work in Americas and Europe, has richly prepared him to contribute to the work of The MPTF, particularly in the arena of PSR for Mentally Ill, and other development projects. Shulamith Koenig, B.SC, HRE/L Advisor: Mrs. S. Koenig is the founding President of the PDHRE (1988): the People's Decade for Human Rights Education; now the People's Movement for Human Rights Learning. To that effect she has facilitated & advocated for human, social and economic development in upwards of 60 countries through dialogue and training to effect societal changes by educating & learning about human rights within the holistic Human Rights framework that leads to action for social justice. Her NGO in Consultative Status with the ECOSOC/UN has succeeded in integrating the HRE/L into the Public Policy worldwide. PDHRE has launched Human Rights Cities program in collaboration with the UNDP to initiate 30 cities worldwide including India; also the training of 500 young community workers to be Human Rights Educators. Prior to setting up PDHRE, she worked as an industrial engineer. She has published numerous papers, training manuals; she has also supervised the publication of Passport for Dignity (Women's Human Rights). She brings rich repertoire of experience and knowledge to The MPTF Board, and its activities in the arena of Human Rights Education & Learning Training (HRE/L) work. She has been a member of The MPTF executive board till 2006. Jacqueline Shapiro, M.A. UN/NGO Gender Advisor: Ms Shapiro graduated from the University of Kansas with a triple major in history, Chinese language and Asian area studies. She did graduate work in history and Latin American studies prior to joining the Peace Corps. She was the Chair of the New York Committee for OXFAM America, Co-Chairman of the New York/Tecoluca Sister Cities Committee, and on the Board of US-El Salvador Sister Cities. For the last ten years she has served as the United Nations Chairman for Zonta International. Z.I. is an organization of professional executives working to advance the status of women worldwide; to provide service to women on global and local levels. As Chairman, she oversees the activities of Zonta representatives in New York, Geneva, Vienna, Paris, and the Council of Europe. Z. I. has been elected to the Board of the NGO Committee on UNICEF; she will serve as Co-Chair of that committee for the next year. She recently stepped down as First Vice President of CONGO, the Conference of NGOS in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations. CONGO is an umbrella organization for over 500 civil society organizations associated with the United Nations. She was the Chair of the NGO Committee on the Status of Women in New York; prior to that, for five years she was Treasurer of the NGO/CSW/NY. For four years she was the Convenor of the NGO Committee on UNIFEM. In her second term as a member of the Board of UNIFEM/USA she will be its Public Relations Chairman. She is the newly elected Chair of UNA/USA/COO, having been the First Vice President, Second Vice President and Member-at-Large over the years. She has been a member of the Board of the New York Chapter of UNA-USA. She is also the past Co-Chair of the NGO Committee for UNICEF Working Group on Girls. Ms Shapiro in her Advisory role would be an asset to The MPTF.
