| THE MPTF MICRO-CREDIT PROGRAM |
|
The MPTF MICRO-CREDIT PROGRAM Mission: The MCP has been created in alignment with the MPTF Mission & Human Rights Based Approach, to support /promote empowerment as a process aimed at changing the nature and direction of systemic forces, which marginalized women, girls, people with disabilities; and poverty stricken/capacity deprived masses. . Since, access to financial services improves the status of women within the family and community considerably, it is important that women play an active, if not dominant, role in any MCP. As direct consequences of such a program, women become more assertive and confident. Furthermore, as a result of micro-finance, women own assets, including land and housing, play a stronger role in decision- making, and take on leadership roles in their communities. To that effect The MPTF/MCP focuses on socio-economic empowerment of poor; enhancing rights to livelihood, sustainability, equity & justice Goal: To undertake prudent actions as part of the global community to increase access to financial services; to ensure that Micro-credit & Micro-finance can be used effectively to contribute to the achievement of the goals of the Millennium Development Declaration (2000). Purpose: To provide micro-loans/grants to poor people for income enterprises, in order to reduce abject poverty and living below the International Poverty Rate of $ 1.00 a day (MDG1). All Millenniunm Development Goals are interrelated to this one goal. Objectives: 1) To increase public/stakeholders' awareness as part of the development equation, 2) To assess & promote the contribution of Micro-Credit to the MDG(s), 3) To encourage innovation & new partnerships: by promoting women's economic participation, gender equity & total household well being. Strategic Model: The current MPTF/MCP design has a Multi-Pronged approach to implementation strategies, which are being formulated and refined. The research, networking, consultations, training and multiple partnerships in USA / India have, and are being developed by The MPTF. Entities that might be involved include, I-NGOs, NGOs in India, Academia, Banks, Micro-Finance Institutes (MFI), Donor and Venture Capital and Internet Entities. The key issue of importance is that, the MCP should focus on moving toward self-sufficiency. This, with the view to ensure that the organization could expand its reach and provide its beneficiaries with a secure source of funding. The process of partnership formation with the NGOs in India would include assessment, planning and implementation strategies, as well as accountability details. Outcome Orientation: Clearly defined organizational vision/strategy with effective communication, oversight and policies/procedures, which are responsive to the environment and the beneficiaries, are essential component of the operation. It is thus necessary that for income generation activities, Project Profiles incorporating requisite details (technology, skills, marketing, management, training needs & financial forecasts) are prepared. In the final analysis, The MPTF/MCP Model is multi-dimensional in nature, a Model, which would allow us to have direct impact on the poor people through micro-credit loan/grants, and utilization of income enterprise cooperatives. We will work with the NGO/CBO(s), and through women (men) Self-Help-Groups (SHG) for economic/social empowerment, integrating the activities with family health care components. Innovation/Evaluation: The MPTF/MCP, and its implementation will be evaluated on an on-going basis, thus to ensure its effectiveness in terms of its mission/goal/purpose/objectives.
